Horse track

The hippodrome, now in disuse. The circuit now house the polo field and a sand track for riding sports.

The Park offers services and amenities to some 200,000 people living in the immediate surrounds, and to the influx of outside visitors on Saturdays and Sundays, when the Milanese, hungry for a bit of greenery and peace and quiet, pour into the Park in their thousands.

Today the Park and adjacent gardens of the Villa Reale open their c.800 hectares to the public in winter (October to March) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and in the summer (April to September) from 7 a.m. to 8.30 p.m., providing a wide range of sports facilities and amenities. Private vehicles are not allowed through the Park during weekends and holidays, but a special bicycle rental service at the Cascina Bastia enables visitors to enjoy the full spread of the Park's splendid avenues.

Many sports associations have taken up residence in the Park, including the Monza Tennis Club in Via Boccaccio 3, with eight hard courts and three indoor ones. The Santa Maria riding centre at the Vilia Mirabello offers further opportunities for lessons in horse-riding and guided tours round the Park. The Monza Polo Club, founded in 1984, has already met with great success in making the sport popular, and has a much-frequented polo school. The centre has three fields, ore hundred horses and one hundred boxes. providing a complete and qualified range of facilities to members and visitors alike.

In a different key, the gentle green slopes of the 18-hole golf course have been a big attraction :o visitors ever since the course first opened in 1929. But the real crowd-pulling attraction of Monza's Park is the Grand Prix racing centre. Built in 1922, Monza's race track is both a celebration of the motor car and a monument to progress.

There are three tracks - one for high-speed racing, with banked curves; one track at road level, and one smaller track for minor events and night racing. The track with restaurant and bar is open al! year round (entrance tee), from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and then from 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.: the opening hours for the racing centre as a whole are the same as for the Park itself.

The racing centre includes a camping area with 600 places, and an Olympic-size swimming pool open from June through to the end of August. Motoring fans can browse through the superb collection of vintage cars and motorbikes at the special exhibition, which includes an extensive photographic display.
